Professional Development Work Abroad

In addition to the short professional development courses she currently delivers to educators in international schools, Janet previously spent two longer periods of time working with teachers in India and Africa. In her position as Senior Lecturer in Education at Liverpool Hope University:

Janet travelled to India in 1992 to work with Tibetan refugees and their teachers at the SOS Tibetan Children’s Villages. Three Science education courses were given: the first in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, where His Holiness the Dalai Lama has his Residence in Exile; the second in Leh, in the Ladakh area known as “Little Tibet”, Jammu and Kashmir, at high altitude in the Himalayas and the third in Bylakuppe, Karnataka, Southern India.

Two student teachers travelled with Janet and her colleague to work with the Tibetan children as part of their teaching course at the SOS Children's Villages.

In 1994 Janet travelled to Ilorin, Nigeria, Africa to deliver two Language and literacy courses to practising teachers. Two student teachers worked with the children as part of their teaching course.
